Practice Focus

Dan is Chairman of the firm. As a trial lawyer based in the firm’s Chicago office, Dan focuses his practice on business litigation and the resolution of business disputes through mediation and arbitration. Dan handles a wide variety of complex business litigation and counseling, including intellectual property, state and federal securities actions, anti-trust, ERISA, class actions and directors and officers liability matters. He has been lead trial counsel in bench and jury trials in state and federal courts throughout the United States. 

Professional Background

Before entering law school, Dan served in the United States Navy. He is the former president of both the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (1994-1995) and the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (2005-2006). He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Dan received the annual Defense Research Institute’s Fred H. Sievert award in 1994 for Outstanding Defense Bar Leader of the Year and was selected for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers® for the past 18 years. Dan has achieved an AV® Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is a testament to the fact that a lawyer's peers rank him at the highest level of excellence. He was selected by his peers in the 26th Edition (2020), 27th Edition (2021), 29th Edition (2023) and 30th Edition (2024) of The Best Lawyers in America® for Insurance Law. He was also selected by his peers in the 30th Edition (2024) of The Best Lawyers in America® for Insurance Litigation. Dan was recently selected as the 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Chicago: Litigation - Insurance by U.S. News and World Report and Best Lawyers®. He has also been selected as an Illinois Leading Lawyers® in 2022.
