About the Panel
Robots and drones are continually in the news for all of the things they can do. Advancements in drone technology (land, airborne, seaborne, and underwater) include delivery services; photography/videography; infrastructure and industrial Inspection; precision agriculture; search and rescue; environmental monitoring; eldercare assistance; and industrial innovation (data analysis, collaborative capabilities such as swarm and collaborative drones and thermal imaging – thermal, LIDAR or multispectral). Recent developments in robot technology include designing an architecture to allow and observe a robot creating a model of itself and using that self-model to plan motion, reach goals, and avoid obstacles. AI systems and deep learning techniques underlie these approaches, enhancing opportunities to apply robots in additional and more complex settings. New types of robots will allow greater collaboration with humans. This panel will present new developments in robot self-learning for a general preview of the expanded opportunities in business settings for robotics technology and corresponding risks, as well as potential legal issues. The panel also will address regulatory and judicial developments, including ensuring effective and reliable usage, liability from human-robot interaction, control and protection of data, invasion of overhead privacy and trespass concerns in non-public settings, regulatory oversight by the FAA and others and cybersecurity vulnerability/potential weaponization.
