About the Seminar
Acuity v. M/I Homes of Chicago, LLC is among the most important Illinois insurance coverage decisions of the last 25 years. Overturning 30 years of Illinois Appellate Court precedent, including cases too numerous list, the court held that damage to property other than the building being constructed is not necessary to constitute an "occurrence" under a CGL policy.
In order to address this momentous decision the IDC has arranged this hybrid seminar with two panel discussions. The first panel will discuss the reasoning of the decision from both the insurer and policyholder perspective, including the issues the court left open to be resolved on remand. The second panel will discuss the practical implications of the decision on the construction industry in particular focusing on risk transfer issues.
