Peter Murphy Tressler

Tressler LLP has promoted attorney Peter Murphy to partner. Peter is a member of Tressler’s Local Government Practice Group.

"Tressler has been a great place to work and we have grown together," said Peter Murphy. "I appreciate this opportunity to further contribute to our success. I look forward to continuing my career as a partner with the firm and working with our excellent team!"

Peter joined Tressler in 2017. He has an extensive background in local government law including park districts, municipalities, libraries and school districts. He focuses his practice on general government work and litigation. As part of his work as chief legal officer for numerous local governments, Peter is lead counsel on bargaining agreements with FOP, Fire Unions and AFSCME. In addition to successfully negotiating and drafting these agreements, Peter has also arbitrated these matters before the ILRB (interest arbitrations). His experience includes resolving grievances at all levels and defending grievance arbitrations. Peter’s work also includes drafting and revising personnel policies and handbooks, including updates and compliance with associated State and Federal requirements. Peter advises his clients on a variety of legal issues, including tax and appropriations, land use and annexation, elections, FOIA, board procedures and voting requirements, ethics, contracts for bid and prevailing wage.

"Peter has been an invaluable member of the Tressler Local Government Team," said John O'Driscoll, Co-chair of Tressler's Local Government Practice Group. "With his years of experience as an in-house attorney, Peter understands the practical issues faced by clients on a regular basis. He has worked hard to establish a good rapport with clients and exceeds their expectations."
