Chuck LeMoine and Rick Capra Secure Favorable Jury Verdict for Defense in Sexual Abuse Case
Tressler attorneys Chuck LeMoine and Rick Capra successfully represented a school district at trial in Cook County, Illinois. One of the school district’s former teachers sexually abused two sisters over the course of years, resulting in significant mental health treatment. Prior to trial, the highly-respected plaintiffs’ firm would not drop its settlement demand below eight figures. At the close of the very hard-fought four-week jury trial, plaintiffs’ counsel asked the jury to return a verdict in the amount of $30,000,000 per plaintiff for a total of $60,000,000. While the jury found in favor of the plaintiffs, the jury also assessed the mother of the plaintiffs with a portion of the verdict. The jury returned a very favorable verdict that was significantly less than the settlement offer both before and during trial, and the verdict was reduced even further post-trial by almost a $1,000,000 set-off resulting from co-defendant settlements on the eve of trial.
