Where are you from?
Palos Heights, Illinois.
What was your first job?
I held my first job in high school between my junior and senior years. My friend and I were amateur interior painters.
Do you have any hidden talents and/or unique hobbies?
I have the most memorable karaoke voice to ever grace a dive bar near you.
What is on your bucket list?
I want to visit all eight Hawaiian islands.
Why did you decide to become an attorney?
My father and his father were attorneys and I respected and admired the help they provided to their family, friends and community.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I divide my day into halves. My brain is sharpest in the first half, so I spend that time either in court or researching and writing. I spend halftime rejuvenating at the gym and at lunch. My second half is devoted to client communication, reviewing file materials and spending time with family.
Why did you choose your areas of practice?
Having played sports throughout my life, litigation is consistent with my competitive nature and desire to see results.
What do you like most about Tressler?
Tressler provides the opportunity to work in a modern setting with a diverse and bright collection of minds and talent. The firm always has an eye to the future and genuinely cares about the development and advancement of young attorneys.
Do you have any memorable court stories?
I once appeared in court on a matter involving a lawyer with my same first, middle and last name. I advised the judge of the coincidence and that there was no relation. I also added the interesting anecdote that I was named after my grandfather, a longtime lawyer on the South Side of Chicago. The judge responded, “You are the third Jerome T. Murphy to practice law in Cook County and your grandfather was a good man!”
