Alexander Givens is an associate in Tressler’s Litigation Practice Group. Alex focuses his practice on tort defense and insurance coverage, including but not limited to personal injury defense, transportation litigation, subrogation claims, workers’ compensation and coverage analysis. Furthermore, Alex has extensive experience handling business services, contractual and family law disputes for individuals throughout the state of Missouri.
Alex received his J.D. from University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law and currently works out of Tressler's St. Louis Metro Area office.
Where are you from?
While I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, my whole upbringing was spent in God’s County, otherwise known as Springfield, Missouri. Currently, I am working remotely from my home in Springfield, where I live with my girlfriend, Kara, and our one-year-old red golden retriever, Kylo Ren.

What was your first job?
My parents owned a baseball field complex growing up. With that being said, my first “job” would technically have to be the multiple years my dad got free manual labor out of me with groundskeeping. Otherwise, my first paid job was officiating youth sports games at the YMCA.
Do you have any hidden talents and/or unique hobbies?
While it may not be “hidden” when you look at me, I was fortunate enough to be able to play football in college. I was the center on our offensive line and team captain, so I was fully immersed in all the grit/grind of the sport with absolutely no spotlight. You will find a photo below from my playing days when I was going for the "Thor" look. I can also play the guitar and piano and compete in Olympic weightlifting.

What is on your bucket list?
While this may be difficult for the Chicago office to stomach, I am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. One of the more recent things I have been attempting to cross off my bucket list is seeing a Cardinals game in every MLB ballpark. I am only about a third of the way there though, and needless to say, COVID has put a bit of a damper on that plan.
Some other items on this prestigious bucket list are backpacking through Europe for a few weeks, white water rafting through the Grand Canyon and getting my golf game DANGEROUSLY close to qualifying for the PGA tour. However, looking at my list as a whole, I think I am doing the right thing by focusing on the most attainable goal first.
Why did you decide to become an attorney?
If you asked me growing up, I would have told you I was going to play in the NFL or the MLB. However, as reality slowly set in, I quickly figured out that I was not blessed enough to be 6’6” or to be the second coming of Babe Ruth.
Realizing that being a global sports star worth millions was probably not an attainable career path, I figured I should focus on my next gifts: the total inability to shut up and my burning desire to argue about everything. I never truly thought about what I wanted to do for a career until I was asked the question while on a radio show for my high school football team. I told the broadcaster I wanted to be an attorney so I could avidly speak/argue on peoples’ behalf and make “bank” for it. From there, I set my goal on getting into law school no matter what and have not looked back since. I will say, however, my overall mindset of why I wanted to become an attorney changed from my initial analysis of the profession at the ripe age of 18.
What do you like most about Tressler?
I have not been a part of the Tressler family for that long, but I will say I have been thoroughly impressed with the team mindset the firm instills in every aspect. I have never felt more part of the team and more appreciated than I have with my time at Tressler. I am very much looking forward to growing more within the firm and helping the team achieve all its goals.
What are you most proud of, professionally and/or personally?
Given where I am at with my career, I would say the thing I am currently the proudest of is being able to achieve all of my goals to put myself on the right track for lifelong success.
