Katherine A. Takiguchi is an associate attorney in Tressler's Litigation Practice Group. She focuses her practice on insurance defense litigation, representing clients in a variety of matters. She advocates for her clients through the stages of litigation, with specific attention to helping them achieve their specific goals. Katherine’s extensive background brings significant insight into clients' needs, enabling her to provide effective and practical legal solutions.
Katherine received her B.A. from Purdue University and her J.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Law.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in a suburb outside of Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois.
What was your first job?
My first job was at Coldstone Creamery when I was in high school. I quickly learned I did not have the upper body strength to work that job – it is a lot harder than it looks!
What is on your bucket list?
Like most people, I love to travel and want to continue traveling the world when I can. I have family from Greece and Japan, so I would love to see where my family is from.
Why did you decide to become an attorney?
Growing up, I had a passion for math and science, so I initially went to Purdue University to pursue a degree in engineering. As one of my electives, I thought I would try something different and took an intellectual property class, which gave me my first taste of law. I enjoyed the class so much that I shifted my studies to a path more focused on writing and a legal career. It was a huge change, but that one class led me to where I am today.
Why did you choose your area of practice?
When I started law school, I wasn’t quite sure what kind of law I wanted to practice. I thought transactional work was more up my alley until I took trial advocacy. It was then that I learned I wanted to litigate. The class allowed me to think creatively and quickly while using my voice to advocate for others. I started the class thinking I would never want to be in a courtroom, and I left the class knowing it was exactly where I wanted to be.
What is your favorite meal?
I was in Venice, Italy last summer, staying on Guidecca (an island of Venice), and we went out for a late dinner. We had no idea where to go but knew we wanted to try something other than the hotel restaurants. We ended up at a small restaurant down the road, right on the water, and ordered whatever the waiter suggested. He came out with this amazing seafood pasta with a full lobster on top. I will never forget that meal as it was the most authentic, amazing meal I’ve ever had – I still think about it to this day! What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
After a long day, I enjoy cooking a good meal and taking my dog, Clark, on a walk around the neighborhood.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I like to stay active in any way that I can. I play tennis with my father, take cycling classes and I recently learned to play golf. I am also an active volunteer for the ALS United charity for a number of their events throughout the year. In the summer and fall, you will likely find me on the lakefront training for the Chicago Marathon to represent the organization. So far, I’ve competed in four marathons - the most recent being last Sunday!

What do you like most about Tressler?
