We are proud to recognize Women’s Equality Day and honor the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving women the right to vote. Women’s Equality Day celebrates a pivotal step towards eliminating gender-based barriers and the importance of the women’s suffrage movement. The 19th Amendment certification in 1920 was a tremendous step forward, but women of color still faced obstacles at the voting booth. All U.S. women fully secured the right to vote in 1965 with the Voting Rights Act. Women’s Equality Day raises awareness about the importance of gender equality in society while celebrating the hard work of equal rights activists to get to where we are today.
